Quality Control Departement at Palex Adds a Make-up Editor

December 6th, 2010 No comments

We all know that the Quality Control Department of Palex does not just check translations for formal errors and adherence to customer requirements, but also performs a lot of other tasks. People do a lot of work and usually check the same document several times. This creates the effect of “loosing focus” and may eventually translate into serious errors in the final document. To avoid this, a position of a make-up editor was added.

tekom 2010 Trade Fair

November 19th, 2010 No comments

Rhein-Main-Hallen, Wiesbaden, GermanyThis year we opted for not exhibiting at tekom Fair, but we certainly could not miss this great event, so I attended the exhibition first of all to meet new and old friends and colleagues from our industry, to learn new trends, to compare the event to the last year’s one and just to do all things people do at conferences and exhibitions. My secondary goal was to meet new agencies for possible collaboration as we expect volume increase and have to gear up for that.

Эта статья по-русски

We found that the problem is in OLE and Service Pack 3 for Windows.

This error is reported every time when you save a file that contains OLE objects, provided Windows SP3 is installed on the computer. The only exception is opening an FM file that already contains OLE objects and saving it in FM or MIF format.

The company’s board of directors together with other top managers analyzed the operations and came to a conclusion that one of Palex’s departments needs to be reorganized. From now on, we have three new teams instead of single localization department. Read more…

Yellow Squash Caviar

November 2nd, 2010 2 comments

Summer has gone away, and only cheerfully-yellow canned zucchinis remind us of warm sunbeams. If you have never tried food preservation — squash or zucchini caviar is the best thing to start with: it’s quite cheap to spoil, easy to prepare and doesn’t take too much time. Zucchini and squash dishes are not only tasty and low-calorie, but also contain vitamines and microelements important for our health.

ABBYY Lingvo.Pro

November 1st, 2010 No comments

The portal beta has already been available (through invitations) for quite a long time, but I didn’t have time to write about it. Actually there is not too much to write. At the moment it is a convenient place to search on-line dictionaries and parallel texts — at least for English-Russian language pair.

Basically what guys from ABBYY did was collect all popular concepts and needs and create a portal that would embrace and address them all. The idea is likely to turn successful, but the implementation also matters.

October 22nd, 2010 No comments

25 hours spent in a Byelorussian train going from Irkutsk to Minsk, and we’re heading to Yekaterinburg International airport. Our destination is Angelo Hotel. My mind is felt with thoughts: what’s the conference is going to be like? will it be a waste of time? why do we need it at all, we almost don’t work in the Russian market?

LISA Forum Europe 2010 – Budapest

October 15th, 2010 No comments

It’s over. Normally what I feel after conferences is close to what I felt leaving a good summer camp when I was a kid: it’s like leaving good friends not knowing if you are going to see them again, like leaving a place you get used to live at and do a lot of exciting things with those friends. This time it’s different; I don’t have this feeling, and I don’t clearly see why.
