Jubilee projects celebration

Last Friday was a special day at Palex. We were celebrating our jubilee project that was number 17000 in our database!

What is even more pleasant for us is that this project fell for our long-standing partner Brainlab. Brainlab develops, manufactures and markets software-driven medical technology that supports targeted, less-invasive treatment.

New QA Tool For Bilingual Translation Files

A new QA tool has recently became available to the translation community. Verifika™ is designed to be a fast, convenient and user-friendly tool. It supports Trados TTX format and XLIFF bilingual translation files and allows to detect and correct numerous types of formal and consistency errors in such files.

Palex attended ‘Contacts Exchange and Cooperation between Enterprises’.

Yesterday Palex attended ‘Contacts Exchange and Cooperation between Enterprises’ event in Novosibirsk. This event gathered together top managers of German and French enterprises and authorities interested in cooperation with Russian businesses operating in Siberian Region. Siberian regions were represented by groups of top managers of enterprises headquartered in this region.

THis Contacts exchange is something that and French enterprises contribute into Russian President Program for Executives Training. This program is a part of ‘strategic partnership of Russia, Germany and French in education, research and innovation activities’.

The purpose of the Contacts Exchange is assisting enterprises looking for foreign partners, rising investments for Siberian Region by establishing joint ventures and launching cooperative business.

The reasons why we attended this event are as follows:

  • Establishing mutually beneficial business relations with foreign partners
  • Establishing mutually beneficial business relations with Siberian Region enterprises
  • Strengthening the position at local market
  • Developing new or cooperative business
  • Strengthening the position at foreign markets

The event is peeating every year, and each occurrence normally leads to establishing new cooperative businesses or signing goods and equipment delivery contracts.

Progress at Palex Quality Control Department

Quality has always been the a priority at Palex. Because of that, the company is constantly looking at ways to develop its employees professionally and to assess their level of qualification. Quality control, from spotting formatting errors to meeting all client requirements, instructions and expectations, is an extremely important part of our work, and therefore our QC Department is under special attention. Recent personnel appraisal at this department has lasted three months.

Trados and Index Overflow in FrameMaker

One of our projects involved translating MIF documents in SDL Trados S-Tagger for FrameMaker. Conversion to TTX and translation went smoothly, but when converting translated TTX files back to MIF, S-Tagger threw an error: Conversion Error 1140. Errors in Tags. Run the Verify S-Tags task on this file.

Quality Control Departement at Palex Adds a Make-up Editor

We all know that the Quality Control Department of Palex does not just check translations for formal errors and adherence to customer requirements, but also performs a lot of other tasks. People do a lot of work and usually check the same document several times. This creates the effect of “loosing focus” and may eventually translate into serious errors in the final document. To avoid this, a position of a make-up editor was added.

tekom 2010 Trade Fair

Rhein-Main-Hallen, Wiesbaden, GermanyThis year we opted for not exhibiting at tekom Fair, but we certainly could not miss this great event, so I attended the exhibition first of all to meet new and old friends and colleagues from our industry, to learn new trends, to compare the event to the last year’s one and just to do all things people do at conferences and exhibitions. My secondary goal was to meet new agencies for possible collaboration as we expect volume increase and have to gear up for that.

FrameMaker 7 reports: An internal error occurred while writing imported graphics in this document. The file has been saved, but has lost some image data. Please report this error to Adobe Technical Support

We found that the problem is in OLE and Service Pack 3 for Windows.

This error is reported every time when you save a file that contains OLE objects, provided Windows SP3 is installed on the computer. The only exception is opening an FM file that already contains OLE objects and saving it in FM or MIF format.
