Prague Pictures: GALA 2010 Conference
Picture 1: GALA people.
Friendly, helpful, nice, wise, being everywhere, making fast decisions.

Picture 2. Hot topics.
Is there a localization conference where people never mention crowdsourcing and machine translation? At least this conference voiced quite a balanced view that all those “tools” are not INSTEAD of old ones, but IN ADDITION to.

Picture 3. Social media marketing.
Another topic you may be sick of. But I really wanted to give it a try after this conference, and that’s what I’m doing at the moment.

Picture 4. Differentiators.
The most popular word at the conference, I think. You could not differentiate yourself by talking about differentiators. But you can do that by talking of things you really like and discussing things other people like. Aki Ito of TOIN put together quite simple things people often forget for some reason. Thanks for that!

Picture 5. Quality.
It’s not a differentiator, but it’s a constant hot topic. This conference was also about it. Olga Fomenko of Ukrainian InText selected a wonderful canvas to tell about old things we all have been dealing with.

Picture 6. Speed networking.
76 people (and I was mistaken first saying there were only 44!) in one room talking in pairs, all in the same time. You speak and listen for 2 minutes and then move on to another person. In fact it was a lot of screaming, and everyone felt exhausted after it, but also a lot of fun and a good opportunity to meet other people and to let people know who you are.

Picture 7. Beer.
Thanks to Josef Kubovsky, we have been to at least three pubs, and I guess Josef selected them for a reason, and I guess the reason was good beer (strange, but there’s also bad beer in Prague). A lot of screaming again, but a real relaxation after the whole day of professional discussions – eventually you could really talk about everything.

Great recap, Julia! Believe it or not, there were 76 people in speed-networking. Next year we’ll have some beverages for you and hopefully better acoustics!
Great re-count of the conference and fantastic photos! As the social media advocate at GALA, I commend you for your social media work here! :-)
